Well done to Mallow Ac members Sharon Woods and Denis Sheehan in completing the Clonakilty back2back challenge this weekend. Ditto also to Grellan McGrath of Solo Run and Eagle Ac for the same feat. Paudie Birmingham ran the Saturday marathon as a training run. Humbling stuff indeed but at the moment I can only do my own thing...
Just completed a 11 mile long run today. Plan was to run 6 miles at a slow pace with last 5 miles at a faster pace. Happy enough with the workout. Ran the last 5 miles at a average pace of 7mins 40 seconds but the last 2 miles were at 7.48 and 7.43 pace. Tongue was hanging out at the end and the splits of the last 2 miles is a good indicator of where I am. Still though happy enough. Back is feeling a lot better now. Went to the physio twice and was prescribed some yoga and pilates stretches which I attempt to do twice a day plus a few planks and core stretches. Since the debacle that was the Dungarvan 10 I am mentally feeling a lot more relaxed about running and having wiped out any thoughts of running marathons or running fast races for a while has been of benefit to me. At the moment I will be focusing on enjoying running and getting a proper structure together.
Ballycotton 10 is on in a few weeks. Not a hope of getting a PB there so will see closer to the date how to approach it it. Perhaps run it as a extended tempo workout at half marathon pace or maybe as a friendly jog with friends and family. Will see. Also in Mallow 10 I will be pacing the 90 minute group. First time doing a pacing gig but I am sure i will enjoy it.
Having a nice break in Paris was great too. Running a 5 mile trot past the Hotel de Ville, the Louvre, Plaza de Concord and back up to the Bastille district was pretty sweet but God it was cold. Walking around Pere Lachaise looking for Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde's grave is also best done with a map ;-)
Below is a shot of the Musee D'Orsay.
Mileage up to February 10th - 34 miles
Mileage up to February 17th -29 miles
